Happy Retirement and Farewell to Matt Kim

We are happy to share long deserved retirement news of our dear friend and mentor Matt Kim. Matt’s retirement date is 7/31/2025 and he has prepared a short farewell message below.

Hello fellow KAIPO members,

When I first joined the USPTO in 1991, I was young, hopeful, and full of ambition—but I also had a lot to learn. Looking back now, I’m deeply grateful for the many opportunities I’ve had to grow, both personally and professionally, throughout my time here. I was truly fortunate to be surrounded by kind and supportive peers, coworkers, and members of the Korean-American community, all of whom played an important role in my journey.

Looking back on those early days, I recognize how much I’ve changed—both in maturity and in perspective. I feel especially blessed by those who guided, supported, and believed in me along the way. Their kindness and generosity inspired me to give back in whatever small ways I could. One of the contributions I take the most pride in is the effort to pay it forward—to extend the same support and encouragement to others that I was fortunate enough to receive. I hope, in doing so, I’ve made a positive impact on both our community and the USPTO.

Now, after 37 years of service, I’ve come to realize that one of the most important things we can do is take care of our health and well-being. Retirement is not an end, but a new beginning— a chapter filled with opportunities for joy, fulfillment, and personal discovery. I encourage everyone to take time for yourselves, prioritize your health, and enjoy all that life has to offer.
